My DH wears sleeveless undershirts and no matter what we try they always turn a dingy gray. How can we keep them white or make them white, again?
Vinegar in the rinse cycle is a natural softener. It also prevents static. You will need to run them through the wash a few times.

Wash them! I use felted wool dryer balls - that will punch them around and soften them up.
I like crisp sheets and always line dry, esp 100% cotton. Over time they will soften up. (I also iron my sheets) I find ironing very therapy.
Use a Softner in your wash
Sheet softness is usually determined by the thread count, the higher the count the softer the sheet. When you first get sheets, you want to remove the sizing thats been applied to the sheet, so I usually add 1/2 c 20 Mule Team Laundry Borax, and 1/2c vinegar to rinse.
A little vinegar added to the rinse water serves as a softening agent.
