How To Stop Your Medicine Cabinet Items From Falling Out

I wanted to share this post with everyone today because it’s an issue that is maddening for me! Last year, I added two additional medicine cabinets in my bathroom. I needed the extra storage and loved them immediately – with one exception. Every time I stock the shelves with my items, they would fall out almost every time I opened the door. It drove me mad! I knew there had to be a simple solution, and I’ve found it! If you have a medicine cabinet with the same problem then you are going to love this solution!
I figured, if this happens to me, it must be happening to other folks too. I’ve created a quick DIY solution. I had lots of leftover jute from my last project and knew I could put it to good use. I decided to create a ledge and attach it to the two shelves and am very pleased with the results!
The medicine cabinet looks like this – don’t get me wrong, I love the cabinet just not the shelving.
I love working with jute and have so many lovely things with it! I recently made a beautiful centerpiece and a Pier1 Lamp Dupe so be sure to check them out. There are so many crafting projects you can make with jute. I always get my jute and other crafting products from Oriental Trading – they have a terrific assortment of crafting supplies and their jute is simply the best! The prices are pretty outstanding too!
I took a few – four exactly – strands of it and glued it together with my glue gun and make a nice solid backing. Once the strands were done, I simply glued them to the glass shelving and added a few river rocks to decorate the ends of the shelf. Then I decided to paint it pink since pink is everything this year and my bathroom happens to be pink as well. Jute is available in different sizes as well.
It works! None of my toiletries fall off the shelf anymore! I love simple solutions especially the ones that cost me much money! I love storing my makeup brush cleansers in this shelf and some other items and reach into a lot. Almost every time I opened it – bam – down to the floor they went!
Sometimes, it’s the little things in life that can drive you mad and when things fell out of my medicine cabinet, was one of them. Not that anyone else is going to see my creative little DIY shelving except me, I think it turned out cute, and it solved the problem!
