I have always heard that you should see the foot of the bed when entering your room. Is this right? I put my bed horizon to the door. I do see the foot but side too.

  • Depends on whether you follow the rules of feng shui or not. The master bedroom in my house only had one wall to work with and my personal preference is to be able to lay in bed and see outside, and not block the window.

Just position the bed to where you feel most comfortable and that the layout is functional. May take several tries and a bit of furniture moving, and when you are happy with the arrangement, you will sleep well.

Are you wanting a feng shui solution, or the best place for your room? I'm not familiar with rules of feng shui. But I was taught to avoid placing the bed over floor heating vents or cold air returns. Other than that you can put it where it's most convenient. What do you want to see when you wake up in the morning? Do you want to walk around it to get to a master bath? Hope you choose a perfect location for you.

Different design principles will always tell you different things but I really don't feel there is a right or wrong it's just your preference and where you feel the bed works best for you. feng shui will tell you that your feet shouldn't face the door nor should you have a mirror reflecting you while you sleep.

when entering the room your bed and wall behind it should be the focal point not the dressers or tv, but giving the room sometime it doesn't work due to wall or window size.

The only reason to see the foot of the bed from the hallway or door would be for privacy. Otherwise, it is your room so the only thing that really matters is if you like it. Some of these "rules" are just silly and waste space... like putting the head of the bed in a corner leaving a triangle of useable space wasted...
