Upcycle A Chicken Feeder Into A Table Centerpiece

My Dad loves to find pieces for me to upcycle-usually on the side of the road. He has found some incredible pieces. A few weeks ago I asked him if he could keep an eye out for an old chicken feeder as I really wanted to make a centerpiece for my dining room table. Sure enough he showed up the next week with this one that was actually in his shed!
I didn’t care that the inside was rusty as it was going to be covered anyway. All I cared about was that it was a solid piece with no holes, so I could float flowers in it. The rust on the outside added to its appeal. Also, the size was perfect for my large dining table. All I did was give it a good cleaning and then tested it with water to make sure there were no tiny holes that I missed. I didn’t want to damage my wood table. The hardest part was deciding what I wanted to fill this with. As I have a large hydrangea bush in full bloom in my yard, I decided to fill it with beautiful hydrangeas in varying shades. Aren’t they the prettiest colors?
I love how the soft hydrangea looks against the rusty metal. So far the blooms still look great and it has been 7 days! The best part is this entire centerpiece didn’t cost me a penny! Here is the after:
I am drying some hydrangeas now as I think dried would look just as pretty. To give it some height I added 3 Dollar Store candle holders with white taper candles. Wouldn’t this make such a lovely centerpiece at a Rustic Outdoor Wedding?
