Probably a wood or commercial vinyl floor. Both would withstand lots of use and easy to clean, more so than carpet.
Laminate flooring .
Teach those boys how to use carpet cleaner. You will be amazed at how quickly they become the policing agents of their own surroundings. Their future mates will thank you.
I'd go with the wood look vinyl flooring. We put some in our townhouse and you can't scratch it if you tried.
It can't be easy when you have that great of an age range sharing a room! As the mother of 4 boys I sympathize. Try dividing the room the best you can so each has there own section. It may look like a hodge podge maze to anyone else but that's ok. By using dressers, bookshelves, and beds create each their area. The more ownership one feels over their space the more pride and care it will be given. As a communal space it is easier to pass the buck, especially on to the baby, for any mess that is made. Rugs can also be used to help define each space. As hard as it can be make it a no eating zone and at the end of the day each is responsible for cleaning up their space. Good luck to you!
I would tile and use area rugs which can be changed out when worn or dirty.
Depending on what area of the country you are in, I would say tile because it is so easy to keep clean. If you like the look of wood, they even have the porcelain tile that looks like wood. Upkeep is easy.
Tile definately safest option
