I always look on Angie's List. There are reviews to help you pick one that is fair and honest and much of the time they will give what they paid for the work to help you know a reasonable price.

In our town, which has a wonderful community center, we offer some types of services for elderly people who need assistance. We offer snow shoveling, etc. many times there are also retired people who are looking for an odd job for a minimal amount of money. I would suggest contacting your local Senior Center.

  • Google! That is how I find everything I need. In my area we receive all sorts of junk mail magazines with local services - I have found some decent help there too.

I don't know where you live, but we have an elder network that has volunteers to help elderly with chores, etc. that they have problems doing, even rides to appointments. Check United Way to see if they also have contacts for you, Senior Centers may have lists, there are a lot of different people you can contact. You may even have a person who lives nearby that can do whatever it is you need, check with your neighbors. That was how we found a neighbor who is a plumber and will do jobs very cheap after hours or on weekends for a little extra cash(he flips houses in his spare time).

Hi! Ask your neighbors. Facebook often has groups for your local area where you can ask for recommendations, also. A neighbor used a popular online service that is supposed to be vetted and got ripped off by a con posing as a licensed contractor. The guy is in jail on other fraud charges right now after being caught, but, the neighbor is out $6000. So I would talk to people for recommendations. Good luck!
