How do I put a ceiling on my front porch?

It is covered, but open. The birds nest up there every year and make a huge mess! The boards are very uneven.

1ST, WHAT MATERIAL DO WISH TO INSTALL, YOOU HAVE MANY OPTION'S, STUCCO, WOOD PLANKING ?

  • William William on Aug 01, 2017

You can use any kind of material up there. Plywood, planks, tongue and groove boards, etc. Yes some of the joists look warped. Use 1X2 firing strips screwed to the bottom of the joists to level them. Use a level and shims between the 1X2's and joist to level everything. Then put up whatever you choose.

I once read to sister steel studs to the existing joists to level things out and provide a surface to screw into. What's your opinion of that vs. firring strips?

Tin tiles would look nice...or copper

Sheet of bead board would be easy and nice. or lower cost you could do it with pallet wood.

That would be gorgeous! First I need to level out the joists...

The steel is used if there happens to be structural problems. Gives strength and support rather than a complete demo. The 1x2's are easier to work with and easier to level joist, floors, and plumb warped studs.

Get some free wood pallets and use the boards, stain or paint them
