I love a red front door. There is a long history of red doors. Churches used to paint their doors red in Europe to signify sanctuary inside. I suggest a two part process. Paint the door a bright barn red and then give it an antiqued look by rubbing brown or black paint over it.

Bring red paint samples home from the paint store and see what red you like best. Or you could try using pieces of clothingnor fabric you have at home. Paint colors can be matched to anything these days.

I would opt for a orange/red to give the door some color interest.

How about maroon? ("Maroon :is a dark brownish red color which takes its name from the French word marron, or chestnut." (Wikipedia). Its earthy like your taupe (by the way, "Poised Taupe" is the Sherwin-WilliamsMoore color of the year for 2017!) and will complement the shared brown undertones in the maroon. Here is a sample of the colors, plus gray together :

Collect several paint chip color cards from paint stores in red that has brownish overtones (especially auburn shades). Hold the ones you like up to the brown trim and see what looks best to you.

Be sure to use exterior paint. At a paint store, they can mix a match to any shade you want.

btw, in Pennsylvania Dutch Country, having a red door means you have marriagable daughters inside.
