Create an Outdoor Room

Outdoor rooms have become such a growing trend, mainly because they are the perfect place to gather with friends when spending time in your backyard. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when creating outdoor rooms in your backyard.
Overhead coverage. Consider a canopy with sturdy poles or, for the more seasoned DIY-er, a simplified man-made wooden gazebo to be dressed up with lights or outdoor curtains. If you do install a gazebo or something similar, just make sure you take special care not to damage your sod lawn. Lounge furniture. The focal point of all outdoor rooms, your furniture choices will make all the difference. Again, think weather resistant but be open to funky, mismatched pieces for a fun bohemian look. This is where you and your guests will spend the most time, so make the lounge area comfortable whether it includes a large store-bought sectional or a bench you refurbished and adorned with colorful throw pillows.
Dividers. What sets outdoor rooms apart from a cluster of lawn chairs and barbeque equipment is the use of partitions. If you don't have the money or if you desire something a bit more fluid and inviting, incorporate drapery. Classic white fabric makes for a chic VIP feel, while vibrant curtains complement other accent colors you might use throughout the space. Alternately, hit an estate sale in search of an antique accordion-style room divider.
