I would hire a contractor as first you need to know if the wall is load bearing or not. If it is, you need a header for structural support. Chances are you may need to pull a permit for this project. I would bet bids from a number of contractors before you proceed, the safety of your family comes first!
Be sure the wall is not a load bearing wall before making an opening in it.
Its not hard if its not a load bearing wall, but if it is load bearing you have to put in a support beam. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+determine+if+its+a+load+bearing+wall+ Best get an engineer to check. Then you want to check if there is wiring and plumbing in the wall cause that will add to the cost.

you have to check if there are any supportive beams or poles and if there aren't it's as easy as swinging a hammer!
