Help! The whitetail deer are decimating my garden

The deer ate 12 cabbages in one night. and basically everything else in my garden. I've tried deodorant bar soap shavings but no luck. I need a non-toxic way to save my garden. Thanks!

I cage mine. Look in fencing materials. It'll come in rolls of 50 or 75 or 100 ft, I think. Hoop it over your garden. You're doing behavior training on them. Eventually, if they keep having to work too hard to get food, they will move on.

PS. It's metal wire, and can be called rabbit fencing.

    Kathleen,

A spray of 20 percent whole eggs and 80 percent water is one of the most effective repellents. To prevent the sprayer from clogging, remove the chalaza or white membrane attached to the yolk before mixing the eggs. The egg mixture is weather resistant but must be reapplied in about 30 days.

You can read more about repelling deer here:

.Liquid fence is good, add cayenne pepper seeds to Molly's recipe, soak them over night, run thru stainer. Try growing mint around the perimeter of your garden. Helps deter critters

I've heard of the egg and water one also with a bit of dawn soap to help it stick to vegetation and tabasco sauce.

But one of the most effective things is predator urine. Sounds really gross, but pouring pee around the perimeter keeps them away too. Probably not great if your yard is small, windows are close to the area or your neighbors are close to the area. (Feel free to use a receptacle in your home and pouring it or spraying it around the area, instead of squatting near the corn stalks.)

  • Use a vegetable peeler on the bar of Irish Spring soap and scatter shavings around plants and bushes. There's a product called Bobbex that works really well if you have something you want to protect though!

I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating - works on rabbits too!
