Plant or weed?

Hello,
Can someone please tell me if the tall green plant closest to the fence is a plant or a weed? I appreciate the help.

It may be golden rod santiago,which produces small yellow wisps .
It appears to be a weed. If you decide to pull it, be sure to wear gloves as some weeds can leave oils on your hands that may cause an allergic reaction.

A weed is just an unwanted plant. This one is rather ugly as is, pull and discard.
Had the same plant grow next to some wild flowers my husband grew. After waiting months for it to flower I just pulled it out. I think it's just teasing you that it will turn into something.
if you like it....it's a flower. if you don't care for it...it's a weed.

Agree with Dfm. If it adds some variety or whatever, keep it.
It looks like Thistle to me. Cardinals love it when it blooms.
anything that big usually a weed. You can wait til it blooms , but don't let it go to seed or you may get a lot of them. Who knows, but I would guess weed.
