Wash the area with white vinegar and water.

I'd be interested to know why it has mold on it. If you don't eliminate the source of the moisture , it will just come back .

Could it be caused by a lack of circulation instead .

Try oxyclean dissolved in water, wet a rag and see if it will take it off. When clean and dry, oil the area to keep it from forming. If it is from wet underneath, it would be a bigger problem. Hopfully, it is black marks from shoes instead of mold.

Any that will help repel any moisture. A lemon oil, or anything else that works on wood, even a wax to slow any reforming of the mold, and to shine up the finish. If it were tile or such, you could use bleach on the mold, but could damage the wood. If it is in a spot that gets little air circulation, place a fan to help dry it out, but only after the mold is cleaned up, or you will spread the mold spores to other places in the home. You may need something to de humidify the air. This has been a really damp summer in most places. Good luck
