Curtain solution for different sized windows

my 1894 house has 4 windows in LR that are 2 different sizes. I tried but I don't love it. I'd appreciate any suggestions. The 4th window on other wall is higher which makes it offer yet. Thanks

  • Personally, I would raise all the curtain rods to the height of the highest window and have all the curtain the same length. That would give an illusion of them all being the same.

I just redecorated a home with the same issue, we hung the drapes across the entire wall. I hung one drape over the window leaving it open and started the next drape at the edge of window covering the wall, repeat across. The homeowner was amazed and happy with the transformation.

    I would consider roman shades

    Hang curtains at same height

Move curtains not only to the ceiling, but also extend the rods to the outside of the window frames to make them look bigger which will also let in more light. If you do hang romantic shades bring them up also. You could also make wooden valances

I was thinking about a wooden valance at the top across the wall. That was in my last house but in a smaller room. Thanks

I'd hang all my curtains at the same height. For the spaces above the shorter windows, hang a plaque, sign or swag between the curtain rod and the top of the window frame to create interest and give the windows a feel of symmetry.

But I see that your curtains are even at the bottom so then I'd suggest that you hang plaques, signs or swags above the short windows to create symmetry.

  • Will any or all of the windows take standard 84" length curtains or drapes? If so, that is what I would do, so that it all has a cohesive appearance. I am a fan of the double rod for curtains. Sheers underneath and heavier weight on top.

You could make a swag from the middle curtain to cover the excess wall above the two side windows. Have all curtains end at the same length. Also, have the window on the other wall start at the same height as the taller window. If you find a colour that blends into the wall colour you want, as opposed to contrasting, that will help. You could mount sheers under the curtains/drapes for the entire area of the windows, so that it is less obvious. Alternatively, you might think of clear shelves, mounted across the wall, and filled with beautiful greenery/flowers. Also, you could mount a valance that disguises the uneven height of the windows. Hope you find just the right solution. :)

I think camouflaging to make the windows appear to be the same by add a custom valance treatment and accent panels, here's the photo I found. Maybe in your sofa color and add the chair color for contrast. I hope I was of some help to fix your window project📌

Aesthetically speaking, I would definitely install drapes that would make all the windows appear to be the same size. They should all reach the floor but just barely. I would stay away from busy prints and maybe do a more subtle look with stripes, plaid or just a textured fabric in a complementary color.

That sounds nice. Everyone has said to make them same height at the top which makes sense. Funny thing is the drapery man suggested it and I didn't listen to him. oh well now I know. Thanks
