I have accidentally discovered the wonders of this little element. Let me share them with you. My husband was trying to make his own carrying case for his pistols. He had the case, but wanted to add some extra foam with the exact cut-out of the pistols to keep them in place. He thought about using an electric carving knife.
PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER*** This is a tool that is VERY, VERY HOT!!! Do everything you can to minimize the possibility of burns to yourself and anyone around the working space!!!
Enter the Hot Knife Point of my Wood Burning Set. An electric carving knife just couldn’t make all those tiny, exact cuts to line up perfectly with the pistols. So, he traced the pistols onto the foam.
We heated up the wood burner with the hot knife on it and IT WAS MAGIC!!! That knife cut right through that foam so fast! It was like a hot knife cutting through butter!
We tried it on thicker foam and when it was not cutting all the way through it, we just spread the foam apart where we had previously cut it and went deeper until it was cut all the way through.
OR to really spruce up the edges, you could cut it from the back side and make the cuts meet in the middle. With this cut, I wanted to cut out a circle and make it gradually be smaller at one end to fit in a specific container. With the hot knife, you can even do this.
