A couple of weeks ago I was browsing the home stores looking for some inspiration.
As someone who has recently moved from a very 'Shabby Chic' home into a Mid Century Inspired space, I have to admit I am struggling.
These pretty vases, in - of all places - my local Habitat for Humanity Restore caught my eye.
So after buying them, I, of course, decided I wanted to recreate the look at home. Easy Peasy!
The vases are a lovely pottery and look expensive - though the Habitat for Humanity Restore was a great place to find them. These were my inspiration!
It so happens that I can buy everything I need from Fusion Mineral Paint - this kit, (I put it together for you - so I know it has all you need!) is perfect! You can buy it online too!
I also used the triangular tool from this kit - this is a Woodgraining Kit - available to buy in many places.
I decided to paint one of those Ikea Wooden File Boxes as my experimental piece (I fully intend to do this on a dresser next). I painted Fusion Mineral Paint in Raw Silk. I painted in a haphazard manner - I was not worried about brush strokes or texture.
Once Dry the next Step was to tape off the bottom - just like the vases!
I then mixed my Fusion Fresco with the Ash Paint to create a lumpy mixture. Full details as to mixing can be found on my Blog.
I painted the mixture over the top area in a thick layer. After waiting until the mix was just slightly tacky, I moved on to the next step.
Using that little triangular tool I created the ribs.
Look how well they turned out!
Once dry the final step was adding White Wax - I Love that stuff!
And done! I love it! I think if I had some Black Wax to hand i hand later - but for now I am very happy! I am off to do the same to my dresser!
You can find a full step by step on my blog!

Looks good. I just use old combs for the same effect.

And what is the file box used for? Is this just a demonstration of the technique?
what would using drywall "mud" do?
can an old comb be used for the textured lines?
