First, Marta, take everything out and get rid of anything you haven't worn or used in the past year (to cover all seasons). Be tough - the space you gain will outlast the terror of disposing of things!

Then, organize remaining stuff into piles of similar things - blouses separate from slacks and skirts, etc.

Paint the closet a light and bright color - If you are using racks/shelves you already have, paint them to blend into the wall so you get "visual extra space"..then put stuff back by category and arrange items by color. NOTE: If you have an extra dresser/bureau, put it in the closet to store accessories like purses, belts, and scarves. Paint this to match, as well.

If you are buying new organizers, go on-line and get ideas. Then take them to the store.

But most of all, have fun with this!

I agree with the above, but also get some of the slim velvet hangers (huggable hangers). You will be surprised at the amount of space you gain when you get rid of the plastic ones. they come in many colors which will make your closet look more uniform.

  • All great suggestions here! I love Joy Mangano hugable hangers! Use pretty boxes to store purses and other small items. Try and get rid of what you never wear anymore, then just organizing will make it easier to find things.

I put a dresser in my closet and it was one of the best ideas ever! If you're storing clothes, fold them and store them like books, not laying flat, or roll them up, you can fit a lot more in the drawers. Put shoes into boots to keep them straight and save room.

First purge all the clothes you no longer have worn in a year and use space saver hangers from Walmart etc. Paint or wall paper the wall straight ahead and add a mirror. And maybe a small bench from thrift store painted? The right side walls line with with shoe pockets pouches from dollar tree don't worry I have a photo and this will free up he shoe size rack. Place plastic boxes over shelf where the cloths hang and spray paint them cute colors from the dollar tree and place all your purses in them and this will free up the purse area.

I hope you enjoyed my ideas

Ditto to all the suggestions above! Start by completely emptying your closet and being ruthless about going through your clothes. Also, if there are items in there that don't need to be hung up, put those aside. If you need to, you can put wheels on drawers and store folded items under your bed if there's room, in a drawer if you have the space, or just use space bags in a pinch. Is there a shelf above your clothes? If not, you could add a shelf with some pretty baskets and store infrequently used items there to free up some floor space. Good luck and have fun!
