Updating a Nightstand

This was the very first piece of furniture I worked on. I picked this solid wood nightstand up for $10. I had never used a sander or painted anything before. I did some research, watched some videos, and had watched my husband redo a dresser. So, I felt confident enough to give it a whirl!
Somehow, I didn't take a before picture?! This was after I had sanded it all down. I was a little scared of the power sander, but it wasn't that bad once I started. Now, you don't need to sand all the way down to bare wood if you are going to paint the whole piece, but like I said, this was the first time I did a piece. Learn as you go folks!
Base coat! A lot of people skip this step. If you are going to distress, I think it is a very important step. I love the look of a color UNDER the chalk paint...not just raw wood. I spray paint for the base coat. Flat black is usually my go to, unless I am feeling wild and want another color...I will post some of those projects in time.
Here are the drawers...I learned since this project to tape off the drawer so there isn't that pesky over spray on the rest of the drawer. Practice makes perfect.
I used the Waverly brand chalk paint from WalMart. This is the Maize yellow. It took SEVERAL coats to get good coverage! There is a lot of debate on chalk paints....I have used several kinds, and most are fairly comparable.
Distressed, waxed, and hardware put back on. This piece was missing the two knobs from the top drawer, I found some I liked, and painted the others to match. It turned out so cute! I decided to paint a bed to match...that I will post another day.
