Desk Makeover With Chalk Paint

I'm in the process of giving my home office/craft room a new look. The first piece of furniture I tackled was an old desk. I’ve had this desk for at least twenty years and over that time, it’s been painted a few different colors. The last time it was painted, it was done in black. Now that it’s been given a fresh coat of paint, it’s just right for this space.
I love that the desk is solid wood. It’s held up great over the years. While I’ve been using it as a work station recently, it got scuffed up and bit and has a few paint splatters on it. I’ve been planning on repainting it, so I wasn’t too concerned about that.

Using chalk paint meant that very little preparation was needed for the desk. I dusted it off,  lightly sanded away a few paint splatters, and removed the hardware.  For this desk makeover, I chose to use Art Minds Chalk Paint in Porcelain.
The room makeover is being done in a peacock color palette. To give the desk a pop of color to match, I painted the center drawer with Waverly Chalk Paint in Peacock.
The hardware was cleaned with TSP before getting two coats of paint.
After the paint on the hardware was dry, I waxed each piece using Waverly Clear Wax before reinstalling it.

The final step was to use Waverly Clear Wax to protect the desk. I did a hand application with a microfiber cloth and hand buffed it with another cloth.
I decided against distressing the furniture for the room. I like the bright, fresh look for this space. It’s going to look even better once I paint the walls.
I'm enjoying the look of contrasting colors for the desk. I recently found the Lazy Susan at Goodwill and gave it a makeover as a craft supply caddy to match the desk. It's pretty and functional on top of the desk.
