What kind of stain? What you use depends on the stain. For example- Hairspray removes ink, Hydrogen Perixide removes blood but can also bleach the rug, Pet stains need a chemical that breaks down the urinary crystals, etc.

Vinegar works wonders. I have blotted the area, sprinkled baking soda, vacuumed that up then sprayed vinegar on the area. There are cleaners at the grocery that help as well.

Depends on the stain, but try some Oxyclean if the other options aren't working for you.

I use to work for a cleaning company and they had a clever little trick of half and half water to peroxide you could spray them on the area use a little scrub brush scrub it in take a towel soak it up. Now keep in mind you always want to do a small test patch. If this is a high traveled area you're going to need to clean the floor after you clean the spot. I've also found that Clorox wipes orange fusion has cleaned up a pet mess. Let's face it with pets there's always going to be an accident especially with as they get older. Hope this helps.. :)
