I recently purchased a stencil from Royal Design Studio Stencils and since I had to pay postage anyways decided on adding in some metallic color foils with a garage sale pineapple find in mind!
To make these metallic sheets stick you have to purchase Wunda Sizing from Royal Design. They were all out of their small size so I bought the quart for $29.95 knowing of larger future projects I have in my noggin!! The metallic sheets are more of a bargain at $6.00 for a 1 ft x 3 ft sheet. You can also purchase larger sizes. What fascinated me about this foil is that the metallic color is actually fused to clear cellophane. When you brush or wipe over the sheet, you can actually see the transfer happening. The cellophane becomes clear as you use the metallic color. This way there is no waste as you simply move your sheet and rub the metallic color off.
Pineapple, sizing and foils ready. 😕 picture
After cleaning my pineapple well with TSP and letting it dry well I was ready to undertake this project. The colors I chose were copper and blue. The blue Looks almost silver.
Paint with Wunda
With a paint brush paint on the sizing everywhere you want your metallic finish to be. This sizing is ready in 15 minutes and will remain tacky for the next 36 hours.
During the process
Laying the metallic sheet down I simply used a cloth to rub over the backing to make the color transfer. They suggest using a brush but after trying several brushes I felt doing it with my fingers was getting it into all the creases of the pineapple. If I was doing a larger piece, perhaps a wall, I would use a brush.
The prices below indicate the portion of products used. You will only need a fraction of sizing and only half of the foil for the leaves
Pleased with the finished color.
You can see how the foil has been transferred to the object, leaving the cellophane clear. There are small bits of color left throughout which I will keep for another project.
Waiting for copper color
I cut strips of copper foil for each leaf doing one at a time.
Position foil over leaf
Again rubbing over the foil to transfer color. I did each leaf of the crown separately.
Complete
So here's the finished project wearing its copper crown.
Theres some videos on YouTube that show this process and their incredible projects.
I am not affiliated with Royal Design, just love this metallic foil!!

    Would this finish withstand outside?

Hometalk implied in the picture on its Facebook post that you used regular Reynolds aluminum foil we use for cooking, baking and storage. Is this correct? I got the impression from your tutorial that you were using transfer type foil found in arts/crafts stores.
