Didn't work well for me unfortunately.

One of my 2 cats (both neutered males) had taken to painting all of my walls, furniture, and anything else he could reach. I was horrified when I got a UV light. He never did that in all of the 9 years I've had him and didn't when I got him a buddy (they love each other and did so right away) but when a strange black cat started showing up outside both of my cats went nuts and the older one (9) started his wall painting, as well as the curtains out in the kitty room. I couldn't keep up with it.

My cats are indoor cats so it's not like the stray is actually going to get in here but they both hate him (and he is weird...my neighbor's cats hate him too). I've tried cleaning with a pet urine enzyme and then spraying some "No More Spraying" but that hasn't worked. He's a sneaky little bugger too; he waits until he thinks I'm not looking and then does it. He's learned that the minute I see him backing his butt up to something he gets yelled at.

It wasn't until I found "Cat Spraying No More" that I was able to finally get rid of this tiresome behavior.

Now my house doesn't smell like a litter box anymore :)

Hi Carol, you've got to use something that will break down the enzymes from the urine and in my experience, there is not much that does on the store shelves. I recently had ChemDry come out and clean my carpets. They use and sell a product that is specifically made for pet urine. It seems to be working great for me. Believe me when I tell you that I have tried everything on the shelves. Maybe the ChemDry stuff could work for you too.

Clean the carpet to get rid of as much urine as you can. Blotting it with a towel to get it out of the top, step on it, changing the position frequently to blot up an area larger than the urine area. Spray vinegar throughout the area and a bit larger to cover any area that may have spread. Vinegar will get rid of the smell and has great antibacterial properties. Once it is dry, the vinegar smell will be gone and you can make sure the odor is gone. If not, use more vinegar. I have found it may need more than one application of anything to get rid of the strong cat urine odor. Once I had it gone, the cat did not continue to use that spot. That is my way of doing it, much cheaper than the products on the market and doesn't take any longer and it works for me. It may take longer to dry, but if it got under the carpet into the padding, make sure you get the vinegar down to it.

The problem is you really need to extract it from the underpad, and it gets into the subfloor too. We removed ours and cleaned the concrete floor really well with vinegar and water, and enzyme cleaners. The smell still came back about 15 years later through the concrete and the carpet that was installed long after the "accident"...We are not even sure that it was our cats...It may have been the previous owners' pets.

The cats have been gone for over 20 years, and the smell still occasionally wafts up...

When my cat marked the rug for whatever reason, I used Lestiol on her blanket, witch she sprayed. There is also Nature's Miracle duel action orange-oxy power, 32oz or 24 oz. It's made by Eight in One Pet Products, Cincinnati Ohio. If you ever need to get urine out of clothes, use Lestoil full-strengtht hot water in the machine. Fill just enough to cover clothes, and pour Lestiol in washer, let it rotate a few times and then let it sit about a half hour, wash. Put it in another wash with detergent, regular cycle. Now wash in cold, maybe several times to get the Lestiol smell out of clothes. Hang out side if you can. My cat peed on seven of my husband's work shirts, why I don't know had them in a basket near her litter box, it's a territorial thing. Good Luck!
