There are so many different types of planters-I love using bright rubber boots in bright colors with the plants inside

Hi Krisjack415, You could use terracotta pots painted to look like faces, The plants become their hair. I have a couple and I put "wave" petunias in them. I like how the "hair" flows up and over the "face". Whatever pots you use, just make sure they have good drainage. If they don't have holes in the bottom, you could put rocks in the pot and cover with a layer of newspaper. Then add the soil and finally the plant. If roots sit in water, the plant will fail. Hope this helps you.

It all depends on the lighting as to the plants would get. I had a long covered porch with a four foot wide set of about 6 steps leading up to the porch in front of the front door. I put one put on each side of the steps with gerber daisies in eight inch pots in different colors.(both pots and flowers). The porch faced south and had mature oaks shading most of the light except morning light and dappled afternoon and evening sun. I also had large pots on each side of the front door and many hanging plants on shepherd hooks on the outside of the porch rails and one hanging on each front side of the porch. Had many compliments on all the flowers and how it had never looked so good since we moved in and started fixing up the front( it was a rent house and the previous tenants made it into a crack house). The owner said to treat the house like it was mine. It only had one plant on the east side, but had empty gardens around two and a quarter of the four sides of the house. Because of the shade of all the mature trees I planted hostas all around. The curb appeal was enormous by the time I was done.

  • How about a couple chairs or bench for seating, a small table for a beverage or snack, a pillow or two, throw for chilly nights, maybe some lighting for after dark. Shop your home first to see what you may already have to repurpose before spending money elsewhere.

Here are a few links for inspiration. I try and add something for each season or holiday and switch it out .

  • You can paint the pots to jazz them up a little!
