Playing With Bottles

I am obsessed with bottles! I checked on EBay and was surprised at just how much bottles cost. Some of the bottles are painted pretty colors. Painted bottles eventually fade in the sun. It was really easy to find brown bottles but they were ugly! I had a few green and then I discovered blue. Cobalt blue. So pretty in the sun. Luckily, I found a brand of beer that bottles in the cobalt blue. I am set! I live out in the country so I've even found the cobalt bottles out in the ditch...I don't even have to "buy" the beer!

Then I had to figure out how to display them. A few years back I bought a really cute bottle holder for the garden. I got it out this year and then I gathered my beer bottles.

Then I ordered another holder with solar lights. The new bottle holder was so huge I had to then buy a shepherd's hook to hold it. My obsessing went on.

I kept thinking what else could hold bottles that wasn't going to cost me money? A rake! This particular rake broke off at the handle. It didn't cost all that much to begin with so I grabbed it out of the metal bin. I had the metal stake. I cut off the end of the rake so it would fit over the stake. It helps to stabilize the rake too.

I love it!

I also had laying around good sized wine bottles that were cobalt blue. What would hold a bottle that was so heavy? I had post hole diggers where the handles broke off and the metal was shot.....

What do you think? My out in the country wine bottle holder!

I have more to add. I am on the hunt around the yard for a garden fork I know I put away when the handle broke off. It is strong enough to hold large wine bottles. I plan to add a string of solar lights to the rake.

Added a pitch fork

A bow rake

Another post hole digger

A shovel. Not finished yet. Still looking for the garden fork!

I had this "sunflower" for years just leaning in the garage because when I first got it, the stake broke off before I could even use it! The other day I thought of how I could fix the problem on my own.

I found a pipe that the stake could fit into. I cut off the bottom of the original stake with a chop saw (already had the right blade on it) and I cut the pipe to a length that would support the stake.

I pounded the pipe into the ground and inserted the sunflower. I found some Rolling Rock green bottles and there you have it. It is so cute! Not sure how long it will last (one of the welds is already away from the stake) but at least it is no longer leaning in the garage. Now that I've got this "bottle thing" going I have one more area I want to set up so still looking for that darn garden fork!

New addition for 2018: I finally gave in and bought a peacock bottle holder. It's not DIY, but I did have to put it together! I had several green bottles and found some unique shaped blue bottles laying around. It was a bit pricey, but I found it on sale at Zulily and it is made by Evergreen Garden. It's pretty solid and should last for years. I'm quite taken with this peacock.

The head has a cork on the bottom...insert into wine bottle and now I have a peacock. See link below to see how I did turn this into a DIY project.

Had this metal wheel leaning on a tree and I had a decorated bottle that didn't work out from another project so I came up with this by adding my extra cobalt bottles.

Thank you! The best part of the bottles is when the sun is setting and shines through the bottles as it sets.
