I have used napkins (not linen, however) as a runner square under my table centerpiece, I have used them as a valance over the curtain rod in my kitchen, I have used them for sofa pillow covers (either sew them or put a rubber band around each corner...depending how big your pillow form is).I tied a red napkin around my teddy bear for a bib for Christmas (does an 80 year old woman have a teddy bear?.....yes)and you can sew them end for end and use for a table runner. When you have company over for dinner....use them for napkins. They look elegant.
I had a set of linen napkins my grandmother gave me. I sewed lace around the edges and used them as doilys beneath my living room lamps.
Soak them in a soution of water and bleach
older napkins are usually pretty big, I use mine as dish towels. They are very absorbent and you can bleach out any stains
Embroidry
Embroidey your initials in the center frame it. Hang in the dining room. Do some for older children and friends.
You could do any of the above or Collect up as many as you can and start a different Patchwork quilt - this time for you Duvet!
You can also dye them and use them still for napkins.
I collect linens (among other things) a simple idea I did once was to use napkins under the loose cushion on a hassock (foot stool, ottoman) to make a kind of skirt for the base. Now I use them on my table! You could make a bed skirt, a really puffy duvet (just sew two together and stuff with batting or feathers if you are lucky enough to have them!)
I have loads of them from my grandmothers and parents and I use them, nothing like a bit of everyday elegance. Love Pat's suggestions!
If you don't like white, dye them a color for special occasion use and I agree with Naomie good old fashioned elegance can come back
Hi Sharon,
Stitch them together using a flat tape to make a Tablecloth or Runner. Use as part of a Quilt. Make small cushions with family Initials on or maybe have the family Sign each one and Embroider their name.
