I've never been a fan of having a TV in a bedroom.

However, my stance on this has thus changed since becoming a sole parent in TV screen competition with a teen son threatening to remove my recent Netflix series addiction…

Well!!! It was time to drag the 'ol travel trailer TV out of storage (stuffed between my bed and wall) and see what I could come up with.

The white dresser already resided in the room, offering the perfect height. However it was high time to bling it up a little to honour my favorite new hobby.

Stencils were arranged to create a subway sign styled look in a striking black and white theme of 'getaway words'. Much like what the shows did for me. Mini vacations every night here I come!

And then a workshop stuffed with messy stacked wood solved a shelf design problem in fine stacked rustic risers style...

It's safe to say, the TV is most certainly welcome these days! Now... any suggestions on what to watch next?!

Here's how I made it:

The plain white dresser already in the room would have worked. However having it look like this for a number of years, it was time for something new with more zing!
The dresser was lightly scuffed with a sanding sponge, then the painting began.

Black was used for the main frame, then white for the drawer fronts.
The paint I chose to use was Fusion Mineral Paint's Coal Black and Casement. I love using this paint because it doesn't require any top coat, and will self prime to most surfaces with proper prep.

Disclosure: I work with Fusion to create projects with their paint from time to time however I am not monetarily compensated for my projects.
After the paint was dry to the touch, I aligned random stencils together in a pleasing way.

They are from my own line.
The images turned out super sharp, and contrasted so nicely in the black and white theme.

Tip: The key to sharp images is to ensure your paint filled stencil brush is dry to the touch.

Next, random rusty junk was screwed into place working as salvaged architecture pulls.

Because... it worked?

I always like challenging myself through a project so it becomes something special in the end, fooling even me!
This part turned out so pretty!

A big hefty plank became the media shelf so I could jam the electronic workings below the TV.

The two risers were made from stacked pallet wood planks. Make sure to visit the "see more" link below to learn the tricks on the easy build!
The result is one funky little Netflix TV Shrine I cannot WAIT to flick on at the end of a long day!

Now the hardest part is deciding which to stare at... the show or the stand...
