Removing a stain from carpet.

My granddaughter well actually her cat knocked over her nail polish remover on her carpet and now she has a purple stain on her carpet. Does anyone know of a way to remove it or at least make it not so noticeable? It just happened so it's not a old stain.

Nail polish contains acetone. Hope the cat didn't get any on himself! It's deadly to animals and people. Don't know the color of your carpet but that can never be removed. you can get carpet dyed to cover it (sort of) but that's a professional job. My sister did that years ago and the carpet was professionally dyed to cover it. Now days It would be better to just replace the carpet in the bedroom. Good luck.

Mix one tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent with two cups of cool water. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent solution. Blot until the liquid is absorbed. Repeat until the stain disappears.

I would believe it's not a stain, but that the carpet dye has changed color due to the polish remover. You can get some Rit dye the color of the carpet and slowly try to dye the carpet back to it's original color or cut out a section of the carpet and install new.

  • I agree that I think the carpet have been "bleached" or altered by the nail polish remover.

If it's white carpet, maybe a little watered down bleach on a damp rag? Im not sure if that would turn out the correct color or not.

The carpet is a medium tan so I can't try the bleach but thank you. I will try getting out and if not I will try the dye. Thanks for the suggestions.

Try this, wet a clean rag (damp), plug your steam iron and let it heat up. Cover the stain with the wet rag and set the steaming iron on top of it for a couple of minutes to lift the stain! Be sure you don't leave iron too long on the wet rag cause too long might burn the rug!

Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed. Some carpet stain removal products can be of great benefit for combating many types of carpet stains.
