A really light gray would look great.

    Gray or pale blue

Your cabinets appear to be painted pale yellow? I think I would pull a gray tone from the back splash for the walls adjacent to the cabinets to tone them down a bit.

Do you have a favorite color? What that color is I would go with that.

I agree! Go with a light gray!! :)

What a cheerful kitchen! A light-medium gray like Sherwin Williams "Mindful Gray" or Benjamin Moore's "Gray Owl" would look beautiful with those cabinets.

What color is the cabinet color? I love it!

    Please!

Do you plan on selling soon? If so, go with the builders' generic gray of the day which is equal to yesterday's off white. If not, choose something else or paint your cabinets because gray is going to clash. Go to SW or BM and get a ton of sample cards. Choose your favorites. Buy samples of them and put the paint on Sheetrock exactly like you will be doing. Any building site will let you have some scraps. Keep them in the room and watch how the light hits them all day. See how fingerprints clean. Pick your favorite and not something strangers tell you by looking at pictures done at one time of day on different monitors. I wish you the very best.

Hmmm, if "gray is going to clash" then why would you suggest using it if they plan on selling soon?

Paint is very personal and would choose what you like and certainly not what others like. Browse for color inspirations on Houzze,HGTV Etc.

    A dove gray!

When dealing with orange-y or yellowy toned cabinets, a gray with a touch of blue, aqua or green looks good. I painted mine with a paint colour-matched to Silvermist (???), it looks more gray on my wall (my kitchen doesn't get a lot of light), but it helped tone down the orange tones, and it is soothing. It has an aqua undertone. The colour changes with different light. Sometimes it almost looks like a grayed sage.

I know this says oak, but it talks about yellow tones. I guess it depends on if you want to keep in the warm tones, complement or downplay them. Have fun!

I'd go for contrast! Burnt orange or chestnut would look fabulous. No bland colors here--- you need to bring out the color of the cabinets.

My vote is for a Tiff any or robin's egg blue. Happy painting!

If it is just one wall and not that large - have you considered a wallpaper with a print that picks up the cabinet color.

Love your happy yellow cabinets! most people have recommended grey because it is very neutral and popular right now. If that is not a color that excites you, I would try a very pale sage green like the one below called prairie sage.

  • Becky Partain Becky Partain on Aug 22, 2017

I think a pale green or sage would look good as mentioned by Ana. I also think Gray would look great. I love your cabinet color. Beautiful yellow. Good luck with whatever you decide. Enjoy!

I personally wouldn't go with shade of green only because lived once in house which had green cabinets and yellow walls and it did NOT look good though both colors were very nice on their own. Gray is a neutral so would work and go well with back splash too. Blue always goes well with yellow.Teal is nice. Orange would be quite a statement but the yellow wouldn't be the focus anymore. You could be bold and use purple!

If it was my kitchen I would choose a shade of grey that is in your backsplash. Yellow is a color that looks very different depending on the colors around it. The grey will enhance the yellow and tie your room together.
