We have a small bamboo patio set on our front porch that consists of 2 chairs and a small, round table inbetween. Originally, they were bamboo colored with natural-colored seat cushions. A little “blah” for me, as I really like bright, tropical colors, so I spray painted the chairs blue some time ago.
Because there is a tabletop fountain on the round table inbetween the chairs, the natural-colored seat cushions started to get small mold spots from constantly being wet by rogue fountain splashes. Funny, because you’d assume that furniture made for outdoors would be at least water resistant, no?
I’ve wanted to cover them for awhile, but just hadn’t found the right fabric. However, while killing time shopping at Ross - a favorite hobby of mine - I looked through the shower curtain aisle and found one that had a tropical look to it. I thought it would be perfect to use to cover the chair seats, tie in with our tropical/colorful theme, and definitely be water resistant. Picked it up for less than $10 and made seat covers one evening.
The shower curtain material (it’s not the heavy plastic kind but more of a fabric material feel) is certainly much easier to keep clean (a quick, simple wipedown), more resistant to water, and much more festive than the original natural-colored cushions!
A simple fix but well worth it. :-)
