Hi, I would love to paint the brick a medium blue with white shutters

Not sure what color to paint the front door--perhaps a complementary green so it stands out. I'd like to give my house a cottage feel. The rest of the house has beige siding, so white paint would not work. What do you all think? Thanks for answering! See the photo.
I have seen that house and shutter color combination with a red door. It is a cape cod look. In my area there are more a med/ dark blue house with black shutters and a red door. Best of luck with your project!
Red doors are said to bring wealth into the house... and with the right red it would look good I think. A red that is darker and leans to the brown side. You want to avoid any red that is too light or bright so you don't get the "flag" thing happening.

Hi Toni :) I was thinking why not just go with beige door AND shutters to match the siding? OR beige shutters and a green door (or in my own wild mind I could picture an ombre door going from blue at the bottom and fading up to a turquoise color which fades on up to a green on the top). Anyway, that is how I would do it. The shutters would at least match the siding and your door would definitely stand out (and ombre is a big thing right now) LOL ;)

If you do, choose a blue with some gray in it, to avoid your brick looking too bright in direct sunlight. The exterior of your home has a traditional look to it, so anything too turquoise might clash with the style.
If you are planning on selling your house in the future, I would not paint it blue. Its not going to appeal to the majority of buyers. But you could do a German Smear on the bricks that would look great.
I so agree on not painting the house blue on the brick. Not everyone likes blue. White wash would look nice. With some other color for the shutters .Just painting your doors and shutters will make a big difference. Maybe start their first and see what ya think.
My old home up north was a colonial blue with ivory shutters and trim with dark red double front doors. We loved it! German schmear would look great on the brick with a lighter blue on the shutters and a navy front door. That would keep it light. Choose the blue on the same color strip so that you know they compliment one another. Just a thought.

i saw a house painted a lovely shade of blue w/ white trim and an orange Door that was absolutely adorable
As a designer, first of all don't touch the color of the house ( except trim definitely cream) until you do the the shutters and door. If you must go with blue do not make it a light blue. If you really want a blue go with a semi dark, not too dark, blue on the shutters. Stay away from the baby blue line and pick a blue that would be in the red line.it won't look red at all though. You will know what I mean when you see the swatches to choose from. Than make the blue on the door a deep blue but in the exact same line of color as the shutters. Personally, i would stay away from blue all together.. But if you are sold on blue if you get it semi dark and dark you will get away with it. Be careful to pick the right line of blue. Buy the smallest can you can get a find big pieces of cardboard and paint one of each blue. Walk outside in the light and look at it for a couple days. Good luck.
As a Realtor and Interior designer i would not recommend a blue house unless it is a smoky navy.
Paint/smear the brick surrounding the door the same beige as the siding. Make the door and shutters the blue you want. But leave the 2 facing walls of brick alone. The door area will stand out more, be brighter. [Right now it is dark and recessed.] That way if you don't care for the blue door/shutters, you can easily repaint them.
