Low maintenance flower suggestions?

I do not have a green thumb but I have a brick flower box in front of my house and I have yet found a flower that does not require much attention that I can grow there. Any suggestions. I live in North Carolina.

    Try vinca periwinkle and perhaps some hosta and liriope. They all come back year after year. If your flower box is deep, perhaps taking some of the dirt out and putting some stones in the bottom to allow for some drainage then putting the dirt back over top and then put your plants in. This might sound tacky, but you can always find artificial flowers that actually look real and plop them in there.

    depends a lot on your 'grow zone' -- amount of sun it gets, your rainfall if you want low maintenance; do NOT use regular 'dirt' , use a good grade of commercial potting soil -- Scott's makes one that doesn't have any additives - like fertilizer or weed killer! and use this link for types of plant https://ask.extension.org ;

    I'm in NC too. If it's fairly shady, impatiens do very well here.

    Small green shrubs with hostas which come in many colors and these are drought plants and add flake picks from Joanne fabrics, hobby lobby as filler. My sister lives in Greensboro and I helped her with this same problem and those are heat tolerant

    If you get very little afternoon sun, I have had great luck with tuberous begonias. I have not given them much care at all except watering. I can't even reach two of my window boxes that are at the top of a privacy fence other than to water with a long wand on my hose, and they have at least quadrupled in size and are a mass of flowers. They have withstood the heat waves without a problem and are handling the cool weather we have had the past week without a problem with nights in the fifties and highs in the sixties to low seventies.

  • For the summer, geraniums would be great! Since fall is a month away, how about mums? Have you tried those? For the holiday season how about white poinsettias?
