Now that you have seen how we re-worked the space in our new open concept main floor, let's get to that living room. We knew we wanted a fireplace, and I had always dreamed of having some kind of mantle and built-in's to help anchor the room and give it some traditional character. We went with a natural gas fireplace and after browsing around on Pinterest, I did up a basic sketch for our contractor. He seemed pretty confident that he could translate my drawing into reality, so we just let him run with it. Here is the play-by-play in photographs of how it all came together.
This is the time of year when we may yearn for new outdoor furniture, a dream that is too often out of reach for the budget-impaired. Still, never say die! I’ve “designed” an outdoor side table that’s super easy to put together using only three main items from the dollar store. Regular readers of Dollar Store Style may have seen an earlier version of this idea on the Dollar Store Style website. After being out in the weather all summer, a couple of issues popped up, which I’ll talk about as we go on.
I really wanted to give our main floor hallway a makeover. It was pretty dark and drab. The hallway is wide and I knew that built-ins would look great along the wall, plus they would be very useful. Custom built-ins are pretty expensive to have made - hence my idea of DIY thrift store bookcases!
With three kids of different ages, the toys in my house are multiplying fast. Because of this, I’m always on the look out for practical toy storage ideas (see here for IKEA toy storage hacks).I decided to tackle the soft toys mess in my daughters bedroom first. Instead of keeping them in your average big container, I decided to build this hanging soft toy storage shelf just above her bed. I love that it has a modern look and fits into the design of our homeMATERIALS NEEDED:¼ of 12mm plywood board1 lumber of 1in. X 2in. Use a small wooden cable/wire spool to make a spinning coffee station for your kitchen countertop! My coffee station corrals cups and supplies, spins for easy access, and is compact and easy to make!
Ah my life. I think I am pretty blessed. I have a great family. My husband is pretty patient and helpful with all my crazy ideas. How is that as a lead into this next project we worked on this weekend. I just cannot seem to leave well enough alone. After a few really crazy weeks, I think, next week will be better. It never is. This last weekend was pretty much the same. After a morning of basketball games, I begged and pleaded to go out and find a Christmas tree. This is one of our favorite traditions. As we headed home, tree in tow, I had another project on my mind.
I can't tell you how much I love these wire spool clocks , for those who may not know there the spools that hold large wires . My wood spools in particular are from a company that installs or updates celular towers. " pretty cool" so after finelly getting these huge spools home I quickly went to work .
I have many different sized spools and this is some of the things I make with them !
Making a side table without power tools sounds kinda crazy, right? This project takes zero power tools, less than 30 minutes of hands on work and is super simple. And bonus – it’s a piece that we still use every single day. Want to make your own side table? It only take a few supplies (and I bet you already have some of them on hand!)
You can find different creations with pallets all over the internet. From shelves, to tables, to chairs, to whatever your mind can think of. I wanted patio furniture, but did not want to spend a ton of money for it. So, we decided to jump on the pallet furniture band wagon with this 2 piece pallet sectional. I hope you enjoy this Pallet Furniture DIY
Using exotic wood veneer and chalk paint, I turn a vintage yawner of a desk into a sleek stunner in black, blond and brown.
