What could be used to block the sun on a section of my carport?

I do not care to use lattice. The section I wish to block is 91/2 ft. wide by 6 ft. tall. I want to put a rug down and a couple of chairs with a small table between the chairs.

Make a curtain from a couple king sized sheets or a drop cloth. Get a tension rod and curtain clips. To keep the bottom from billowing in the breeze, sew a channel at the bottom, or use velcro, and insert a pvc pipe to heep hanging down .
canvas drop cloth(home depot paint department) with grommets and a rope weaved through tied off to your carport poles. kinda nautical but attractive!
what do you think of verticle 2x4s? Lets breeze through but blocks view.
