5 Tips for Using Metallics at Home

It’s Olympic season, which is a fitting time to highlight a classic home decor staple: metallics! You don’t have to train 18 hours a day to ‘metal’ at home (get it? medal? metal? haha?) It’s no secret that metallic trends come and go, but truthfully there’s always SOME version of gold, silver, bronze (and copper!) on trend at any given moment. It’s a great time to play around with metallics, since we’re seeing that just about anything and everything goes when it comes to metals in home decor.
If you want to start using more metallics in home decor, here’s some tips to get you started:
Tip #1: You CAN mix metals in the same space. In fact, it’s encouraged! The big tip here is to make one metal type dominant, and accessorize it with other metals.
Tip #2: Trends come and go, so BUY WHAT YOU LOVE. You’ll never be disappointed. Tip #3: Mixing metallics with natural elements keeps the metals from feeling overdone will adding a touch of ‘glam’.
Tip #4: There’s many ways to add gold, silver, bronze, and copper to your DIY projects. Spray paint, craft paint, leafing, gilding paint, and gold cream are several ways to get various finishes.
Tip #5: My favorite places to find metallic home decor of all types: Homegoods, IKEA, West Elm, thrift stores, antique stores, and flash deal sites like One Kings Lane.
