How to remove wallpaper that's stuck on walls.

I made the bi mistake of paying someone in advance to remove wallpaper in my bathroom and kitchen and then to paint the walls. They worked one day and never showed up again! Now we're stuck with partially removed paper in both rooms! I'm disabled and we're both senioRd unable to do the job ourselves. Any suggestions on an inexpensive alternative to covering the walls? We can't afford to hire professionas to do the job. Help on suggestions please!

Use a steam iron on high, held an inch from the wall. It will loosen the wallpaper so you can pull it off.
rent a steamer. Most wall paper will come right off. You can spray with warm water and scrape or hold a warm, damp towel up to soak and then scrape. If wall paper is vinyl you need to score first to let the water or steam to do its thing.
If you cannot do this very difficult job yourselves, you are unfortunately going to have to hire someone else to finish this for you....do NOT pay them until you are satisfied with the results!
Take a long saw and holding it parallel with the wall, scrape the wallpaper with the teeth. Then you can spray the wallpaper and scrape it off. You will have to wash the walls of the rest of the wallpaper paste before you paint.
So sorry to hear you paid someone before the job was completed. Not only should you not pay beforehand, but you should have a contract that spells out in writing everything to be done - and signed by both parties.
Contact Habitat for Humanity, they have home repair crews here for seniors and disabled at very low costs. Some churches have home repair crews who do volunteer work for seniors, low-income and disabled.
You could try calling your local Senior & Disabled Services branch, and talk to the Project Independence worker. Call your local dept. of aging to see if they know of anyone.
Lastly if this person had a contractor's license, file a complaint with your State Contractor Licensing Board. If you paid them up front, call Adult Protective Services and report you have been a victim of financial abuse.

I used vinegar and water. The wallpaper had been painted over several times. it was almost 100 years old. I scored it, let the water/vinegar set, rewet, then it came off. Do a little section at a time and you can manage. I'm old and I do things like that.
