IKEA Childrens's Plastic Mammut Stool Makeover
Like most modern families we have a number pieces of plastic furniture that come from the IKEA's children's range.
And whilst these pieces of furniture are very durable after a number of years they do start to get scratched and tired looking (well with my kids they do :) )
So, I decided to give this white Ikea Mammut stool a makeover.
As you can see this one was pretty scratched.
So to prepare it ready to be painted I lightly sanded the really big rough scratches as these would show through the paint.
I also lightly sanded the under side of the stool as this is really smooth.
By doing this, I found that the paint adheres better.
To do this project I actually used metallic silver chalk paint together with a pretty dusky pink and olive green colour.
The brand I used was Everlong. You can find more out about how to work with this brand of chalk paint in this book case makeover post I did a while back.
I painted 3 layers of the paint, waiting approximately an hour in between the coats.
If you have any really big uneven brush stroke marks you can always lightly sand them before the next layer goes on.
I used the dusky pink and olive green coloured chalk paint on the feet using just the line of the joint in the plastic as a guide to get a straight line.
Again I did 3 coats of the paint to cover the plastic properly.
I then used some foam stamps to decorate the top.
The bigger flowers did go a bit sploggey but I have just left it like that for now.
I may go back later just to repaint the top bit and do the stamping again.
And here is the finished stool!
I think it certainly looks better than it did and my girls were really happy with the end results.
