I bought a small cabinet for $10 at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and wanted to give it a makeover. It is not real wood, pressed wood - so painting was the best option for updating it from the current dark paint.
I didn't realize that the doors were not in good shape, so I decided to remove them and transform it in to a bookcase instead of keeping it as a cabinet.
I painted it white with Waverly brand chalk paint, it took a while to cover the dark brown paint.
I wanted to bring out some colors, so I lightly dry-brushed a mustard/golden chalk paint color, also by Waverly on the top, front trim, bottom, and side trim. At this time, I was going to leave the inside dark, but then decided to paint it as well.
Then did a final coat of Heirloom Traditions paint in Bell Jar Blue, painted the inside (painted it white first) and applied white wax on top to soften the look.
What a huge difference from the dark, broken cabinet that I bought originally! I hope you like it!
