What color to paint my front door?

Our house is slate/steel blue and I want to paint the front door with a color that will pop. I've looked at color wheel and don't like the oranges that are complimentary. Also, blogs always show big, beautiful painted front doors with no screen door. I'd think most people live where bugs would come in without the screen door. Don't those painted doors ever get opened?

Color choices are very personal. My suggestion is to snap a photo of the color of your door and browse the color charts at the paint store. Should you think you have found the right color buy a sample and test it.

Paint your House Door White. Paint your screen door Red with a silver screen and a thin line of Gold about 1/2 inch from screen.

Or or at least that's what I would like 😊

I don't like red,but that's a matter of opinion.I would use a bright green or another blue, but a bright blue. Not sure about the screen door part.Maybe they come in and out through the back door or garage? Hope you find the right color for you 😊

Hello Barb; Please go to Home Depot, Etc. Get any paint chips that interest you. Bring them home and choose the colors that you Love and Enjoy.

Look at the chips outside, by the house and decide what will look the best.

I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!

I think a bright yellow would compliment well, but yes get color swatches and/or tester samples from your local paint store. I think Ace Hardware gives tester paint pots free in my neighborhood, maybe they do in yours too. Good luck!

Drive around your neighborhood and see what others are using. Look at decor magazines and on-line to see what piques your interest. Forget the color wheel--- go with your gut instinct. Something else to consider is what flowers you will plant or put into containers out front and use these colors as a guide. Don't forget--- you can always paint over the door if you don't like it!

For a classy and classic look, I never choose a Complimentary color but personally, prefer an Analgous color ... which means choosing a color within the same color family. I also follow the common advice of decorators and never paint a garage door to match the front door. Why? Because your front door should be the focal point and stand out - and not the garage door.

For your color scheme, I'd suggest a smart navy blue front door with white trim around the windows (whenever the windows needed doing) OR paint the front door a rich elegant Eggplant color (my two favorites!). Either will look very, very smart!

Of course, I don't know the color of your roof but am assuming it is a muted gray or quiet color that blends with your siding. Re screens, "yes", I know what you mean, a front door does look nicer without a screen and it takes getting used to living without a screen door! I really missed the lovely cross-breezes in my old house but have finally adapted. 🙂
