I'm sure you've seen the Kindness Rocks project by now. It's sweeping it's way around the world and I think it's just wonderful!

Last week I decided to add a few more rocks to the growing population and scattered them around our city.

The best part: our kids loved the idea too and joined me. This is a wonderful project to involve kids in!
All you need to start this fun project is a few rocks. If you have some in your yard, you're good to go. I bought a bag of river rocks from Home Depot and now we'll be making kindness rocks for weeks to come.

Flat rocks are good because they provide an easy surface for writing your messages, but don't overlook rocks that have really unique shapes too. Those are fun and you can design around the shape for something totally unexpected!
I used basic acrylic craft paints and colored sharpie pens. That's it!

You can get as elaborate with this as you want, but here's the good news if you're a Time-Crunched Creative: this project is quick and easy and can be as simple as you want or have time for. This is more about sharing kindness than creating a work of art.

On the other hand, my kids got so inspired when they worked on theirs. They each had one special rock they loved so much and was so pleased with their work, that they saved them for a very special placement.
Give each of your rocks a coat of acrylic craft paint. A single coat was all I used on each rock and the coverage was just fine.

I'll warn you - this is addictive! There's something amazing about the way paint covers a rock and gives it a whole new personality.
Next, add your message. You can paint doodles, pictures, or whatever you like on the rock, or just stick with markers and write messages.

Use a variety of colors, fonts, and styles. Whatever you love is perfect! Let your imagination take off and try to let the shape of the rock dictate the placement of your words and details.
It's totally optional, but it's really fun to create a hashtag for your rock and add it to the back. If the recipient of your rock uses social media and shares it, you might just be able to see your rocks again!
It's a good idea to give your rocks a coat of sealer to protect them from the weather.

Now, gather your rocks and spread them around your neighborhood, your city, parks...the possibilities are limitless! Just be sure to use good judgment about where you place them to prevent accidental injury or property damage.

Spread some kindness where you live!

I saw a friend say that you needed to bake the rocks before doing anything to them yo remove moisture. Has anyone had a problem with moisture being in the rocks?

Has anyone complained about you leaving them in the city? I think it's a great idea........I find this interesting because while walking around downtown Raleigh NC, we saw some funny signs promoting vegetarianism.. "Hungry ? eat a peach!" written write there IN the sidewalk!

We are going to be doing this as part of the outdoor badge for girl scouts. I was inspired when we went to Alaska and found one of these rocks!! My husband and I were so happy when we found it on Beluga Point
