LOL we don't have that problem in New Jersey! but we do have a lot of critters that do like to intrude. Mothballs help along with Liquid Fence deer and critter repellant that works really well for about 6 weeks then re apply. I would ask your county agricultural agent or county Master Gardeners for answers
Armadillos are a problem down in southern Ga. They are like mini pigs that root up your yard. Rat traps will not work. You can only hope to deter them by getting rid of the food source. Lawn insecticide works. They may root a bit, but they won't totally destroy it. I have also used cayenne pepper powder. How would you like a snort of pepper up your nose? We had one digging a hole about 2 feet deep, and after filling up the same hole 3 times, It has to be put down pretty often and rain and humidity will weaken or wash it away. The last resort is shoot them.
Quickest way is a Ruger 45. They go through my flower beds like a tiller. I've installed an electric fence along the edges of my brick, used moth balls and many other things but doesn't phase them. I've tried every thing and decided to rid my beds of them once and for all.
I had armadillos digging under my back fence from the field behind us. Tried putting an old running shoe in each hole I filled in and it seems to work. I've heard they can't see well but their sense of Smell is very good. Old shoes smell so heck, it can't hurt!!
Bayer Grub worm killer. You buy it at any home improvement store. I get mine at Home Depot. It is the best for killing their food source. I apply it every 3-4 months. Kill the food source, they don't come back. It's great stuff, to me it is the best.
Pine mulch is what they tear up the worst in my flower beds. We have tried shooting the and ive used humain traps and then more just come but i didnt like dropping them out in country cause thats just doing it to someone else cause i live in the country.. I put out cups of beer because they don't like yeast but that is only a short fix and gets expensive
Saw an armadillo last evening while walking my dog........just moved south to Nashville and first time in my 65 years that I've found one in my mulch beds and up close and personal. Pretty strange to say the least, it was bigger than my dog. That sucker can til up the beds better than a tiller you rent at Home Depot. I may try cayenne pepper and cologne and see what happens. If nothing else the armadillo will have a burning butt and smell awesome!
I used Cheyenne peppers in my vegetable garden for deer but have thought about trying that for armadillo cause they done normally bother my vegetables but pine straw they love.
Traps baited with worms or rotted fruit. Grub granules faithfully put on lawn and around house/building foundations , shrubs every 2 months along with a slow release fertilizer called Malorganite. ( used by golf courses to deter deer from eating shrubs ) It smells disgusting the first few days but it works as long as you don’t sway from your 2 month application schedule. We found that it also keeps the armadillos away. We have spent thousands due to the damage that the armadillos caused. They had tunnels from one sm. building to a garden shed.Had tunnels under our house porch/decks Almost undermined am. Building. Also remember they will birth 4 babies. We laid wire fencing flat around all foundations. All our mulch is pine straw and it doesn’t deter them. They rampaged all shrubs/ plants and we had to replace all. Bought rock & cement to fill in tunnels holes that were 6’ deep or more.Vinegar, ammonia, bleach, gas doesn’t work either. We keep the traps baited, do the grub & Malorganite granules and it finally seems to be stopping them. It’s been very expensive, exhausting & overwhelming.

I don't know but how cool would that be to have them to see! Why what damage do they cause? Try setting rat traps I am thinking.

sprinkle hot pepper flakes or just hot pepper. get at $ store
raise your flower beds !
Put out slug bait. They root for the slugs. It worked.

My friend use his 22 rifle as a last resort. He left the dead in there holes they dug. They got the picture
