I would consult with a professional for that.

If you have a double bowl sink the disposal would go into one bowl. You would need the plumbing for the conversion. You cannot install switches where the outlets are. You would need a separate switch and a separate circuit in the breaker box just for the disposal. It would be against code to tie it in to an existing circuit.

If you have a septic tank, I would strongly advise against a garbage disposal unit. It will tend to overload the septic tank, forcing much more frequent servicing of it.

Some states and areas prohibit garbage disposals. They tend to plug up city piping. Check on local regulations before you install one.

Since the outlet is near water a GFCI outlet will be required by code. I would recommend calling an local electrician. On a septic system, try to keep as much food waste and grease out of the system.

I used to sell DIY kitchens and my brother had one and I've come to the conclusion that they are just liquidisers to feed the sewage rats ........people are wondering why rats are getting bigger and I believe that is why .

Took out the disposal that came with the sink when we bought the house. We are vegetarians and compost all of our scraps. You should see my gorgeous soil.

Please pay attention to those who said if you have a septic tank , you must not have a garbage disposal. They are correct.
