You can purchase diatomaceous Earth. This can be put onto the dog and also on the carpet. It is crushed shells and coral. It cuts the exoskeleton and dehydrated the fleas. You will have to let it sit in the carpet for a few days. I would also sprinkle it in the yard to prevent the dog from getting fleas again.

I hate Proctor & Gamble products since they test on animals. But I had to break down & buy Dawn dish detergent. Wash your dog w/that and it is supposed to kill the fleas w/out using anything toxic. My dog had a double coat so I had to do it several times. DO NOT ever use Frontline!!! I can't prove it but I used it on my dog and he started having seizures which eventually killed him. I was devastated!!!! One thing you can use is a product called Cap Star... you do have to get it from your vet but it is wonderful. I gave my dog the pill and when I put him in my truck to get him home from the vet you could literally see the fleas jumping off of him!!! It was crazy! I'm in South Florida so it's very humid here and fleas are prevalent. My dog only went outside for his walks and play. He was never an outdoor dog & still about once or twice a year the flea problem was really bad. Good luck!

I would make sure to treat the lawn first as this is most likely how they are on the dog and in the house. The get in the house by jumping on your pets and you and drop off in the house. If you don't treat outside you will never get rid of them. I would check with a bug expert on doing the lawn, it may be more expensive, but they would be more apt to really eliminate them. They know what works the best and how to treat to prevent them from coming back in the lawn, the house and on the pets.

Get to the vets, please don't use over the counter flea medication. They have an oral medication that they use when animals board and come in for grooming which kills all the active fleas in the first 24 hours. Then purchase a monthly one that is made for your animals weight. Flea powders and shampoos are a quick fix that does not continue to work. Purchase a spray that you can use around the baseboards and under your furniture. Vacumn and then dump the bag outside. Do not empty in the house. Continue to be vigilant. It takes a while to clean up the problem

FYI - Dawn and Cap Star only kill live fleas, it will not kill the eggs. I use Frontline monthly from March until it freezes outside and have never had a problem. My dogs are 11 and 15 and my cat is 16 and they've been getting Frontline since they were old enough. There are so many options for flea prevention, just talk to your vet. As far as the house, you'll have to bomb the house and vacuum as others have suggested. Good Luck

Try a can of Brewer's yeast. Sprinkle some over the dog's food . Give him a bath and the. Rub some brewer's yeast into his fur. He will lick it off which is good for him. Once he has it in his system, it emits an odor that humans don't smell, but fleas hate! Meanwhile, get a flea bomb and go to town!
