I agree with Susan. Put in a 1/3 to 1/2 layer of packing peanuts in the container. Soda cans or plastic bottles with landscape fabric on top. Then put in your soil.
Hi Donna! I used several very large pots in my yard and I have used a couple of things to lighten them up. First of all, I use those shipping peanuts mixed in with a couple medium sized rocks in the bottom when planting for drainage. I found that you need something with the peanuts to allow for drainage - you could even use some of those little glass stones with the peanuts. I also use some soil moist pellets mixed in with the planting soil to keep the soil loose for the roots. The soil moist is good when you water because it helps to hold the moisture for an extra day when it is really hot.
Chunks of styrofoam. I used an old foam cooler that I broke up into pieces. Took about 2/3 of the space. But know what you are putting in it. Nothing edible and some plants need more root space than others.
You can put the heavy pots on rollers. Put good casters, not the all plastic ones, four to five on a piece of plywood, round or square in shape that is a couple of inches wider than the pot on all sides. You may want to put three or four pieces of 1x1 or 1x2 on the wood to help keep the pot on when you move it.

I agree about soda cans or other light things that will fill in the space that's not necessarily needed for the soil. Best of luck to you.

Soda bottles with air in them. You need to watch how much soil you replace or you may not have enough room for good root growth.
