Pattern for Cover for Dual Loveseat Recliner with Console

Teri
by Teri
I've searched all over the web and cannot find even one cover for a dual recliner loveseat with the middle console.
Could someone suggest who might have one or does anyone have a pattern for one?
Thanks so much!

what is the material? You can paint or dye it

    • Teri Teri on Aug 31, 2017

Hi Janet! Thank you for your idea. Actually, the loveseat is only a year or so old. I am wanting to protect the loveseat before it gets to the point of no return!

      Thanks again!

Have you a Company where you live that makes Stretch Furniture Covers,? In UK we have "Plumbs". If not then have you tried an Upholsterer or Loose cover Company. Failing that it might be a case of using Throws.......

I am having the same problem

Teri, the pattern tutuorial below doesn't say anyting aoubt "with console" but I am sure there MUST be a way it could be added (with some measurements taken and applied adding seam allowance etc). It could be a console isn't added because then they would have to consider cup holders or middle arm raising up for storage, or both, and that just truly complicates the whole thing.

and the following quote from Steven Cantrill from Sept. 2, 2016 might be of some help to you, too: "I bought two high back recliner pet covers and tucked the extra arms down between the two bottom cushions. The ones I bought were rubber back so they don't slip on my leather loveseat." (quote taken from the collowing website):

Well, Teri, that is really all I could find and I sure do hope it helps somewhat. Good Luck, and thank you for coming to HOMETALK for solutions.

Hi Katty! Thanks for your suggestions. I did check out both links and like a couple of ideas on the thriftyfun site. I do know how to sew but I have no time to devote to making one. Perhaps when I retire in a couple of years I should spend some time designing a cover of this style. I see that there are many other people looking for this style of slipcover.

Thank you again! This has been very helpful!

As a Marine Upholsterer, that never has a pattern to go by to recover something, remove the upholstery, keeping it in as many whole pieces as you can ONLY from the seams. Mark every piece with where it belongs and the direction (on the backside of fabric). Take every section apart ONLY from the Seams, (again marking each piece) Iron the pieces flat, weigh them individually down on craft paper, outside down. I personally prefer to use beer case boxes, they are sturdier. Outline your old fabric piece onto the "new" paper/cardboard, cut out pattern, Mark the new pattern piece accordingly and so on.

      Hi Geew,

Thank you for your reply. If my couch was in bad repair I would certainly apply your idea. My couch is only about a year old and I want to cover it before it gets to the point of having to tear it apart for the pattern. Once, many years ago, I found a beautiful antique chair with swan head arms. I did exactly as you suggested with this chair while taking an upholstery class at a local community college. It turned out wonderfully.

Thank you again for your reply to my inquiry!

Had another thought - Is the upholstery in good condition , but you want to change the colour? I haven't done it myself, but others have Painted the Upholstered Furniture.

I have the exact same couch. We have sheet sets (camo) to cover them. I bought twin sets. Just fit around back of one side at a time. I put the fitted sheet on the seat because of the elastic fit. It goes well with all the deer heads. My husband is happy and helps with dog hair because can be removed and washed.

Thank you, good idea. I've got a lot of response here on Hometalk.

      Thanks again!

Also the middle console I use a small throw blanket. Wish they made an insert for this so you don't have to use it all the time.

    • Teri Teri on Sep 02, 2017

Oh, just saw this post. Why couldn't you use the pillowcases for the middle console? That way all would match!

  • Sharon Sharon on Sep 02, 2017

I think your best bet is to get one of these, pin over the console area, cut an X in the middle of each cup holder, cut out and trim with double-folded bias tape and sew around each hole. They come in solids and prints. Wayfair had the most prints. https://www.wayfair.com/Alcott-Hill-Dauberville-Loveseat-Slipcover-ALCT8198.html?piid=19137755

or you could get two of the recliner chair covers, and sew together the two arms that meet.

That is a great idea. My pit puppy is destroying our brand new couch. I have looked everywhere for cover for the loveseat, with no luck. I have been putting a pillow case over the console lid, but the cup holders have taken a beating. I just got a call from our sitter, saying that she has chewed on the couch at the cup holder. I'm so at an end with the puppy, but I lover her death. I am going to try your idea as soon as I get home. Thank you so much!!

Found a video how to make a slipcover for a recliner, if you can sew, you should be able to adapt it to your dual recliner.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CijSTV6Dgcc

Surefit.com has armless recliner covers. Only thing they are on backorder until April. Only place I have been able to find them. I may have to wait unless I just get a recliner cover and do what the guy said, tuck the middle arms under the seat. I tried that because I have a recliner cover and It worked pretty good.

  • Teri Teri on Feb 28, 2018

Hi Terri! Thanks so much! This Spring I HAVE to get some type of cover made. I will check out the armless recliner covers.

I have a black dual reclining loveseat that the stitching has come out of on one side. I asked an upholsterer and they said they could not fix it so I am looking for a slip cover. I don't sew. Help!

  • Valeria Logan Valeria Logan on Feb 01, 2020

Just a suggestion, maybe get 2 slip covers for a reclining chair and remove the extra arm cover off both to make something to cover the console. I’m in same dilemma and I might try that.

  • Teri Teri on Feb 01, 2020

Thank you, Valerie. I don't understand why Sure-Fit or some other manufacturer doesn't make these. There is truly a market for them!!!

  • Shirley Frazier Shirley Frazier on Jun 27, 2020

I am looking for the same type of covering for my dual recliner with console.

Some of these ideas are great going to give them a try. But i wish they would just make some for this model of sofas

I also have the same style 2 chair reclinable loveseat with center consol, but Leather/Pleather in sectional style with a wedge, that has been heavily damaged by our cats who like to use it for a scratching post, lol. Surefit.com has 8pc covers as well as Amazon that cover a three seat reclinable couch, I will be getting 2 soon and using the extra "center seat" peice for my center counsols. The plan is to tuck everything in and around as normal, then using the extra fabric of the center peice for the consol. I will remove the lid, hinges and plastic consol insert, remove any extra fabric that would be hanging (making sure that I have enough to cover the lid) cut an "X" in the cup holders and the opening where the plastic insert goes so they can be put back in place. Then wrap the lid with the extra fabric and use a couple small finishing nails or staples to secure it on the bottom of the lid, so it is still functional. The only downside, they are a bit pricey around 106$ for the cheapest that I could find (Amazon), which if you only need 1, its not so bad but when you need 2 it can be a bit difficult not to just go out and buy something new haha. I will post a few before and after pictures when I get them. Hope this helps anyone that has had this same struggle!

Hi Brice, I really like your idea for the covers. I too have 2 of the same love seats like yours. Could you please provide the name brand & link to order these covers. I love the brown also. I am also a prime member of Amazon and would love to save on the price as you did. I have to say you have done an amazing job with the covers. Thank you for the photos you submitted and the name brand & link in advance.

Thanks so much, Bruce. I'd love to see the before and after. I still haven't covered my dual recliner. Bought a reclining chair so the dual recliner is not being used much now but would still love to cover it. Thanks again!

I made slipcovers for mine! Is this what you are looking for? https://www.b4andafters.com/fleece-slipcovers-recliners/

  • Teri Teri on Aug 21, 2020

Thank you Bryce for sharing the photos and idea! Looks GREAT! Also, hundreds of $$$'s cheaper than buying a new one of these type of recliners!!!

Bless you, friend! I hope this helps everyone with these double recliners with the console in the middle.

    Maybe post to Pintrest???

  • Deb K Deb K on Feb 06, 2021

Hi Teri, I would buy 2 covers for individual recliners and use them on each side, you can improvise a cover for the console part. I am thinking that they are stretchy enough to go right over the console as well. Hope this helps

Good morning, I am presently ordering this style cover on Amazon.Seller is Great Products Inc,and brand is Utilcor. There are several other brands but I was looking for a specific color and also needed matching covers for reclining chairs.
