For soap? Ooh what a mystery!

    • Wendy Wendy on Aug 31, 2017

Soap could be cool, with the top closed, the space is quite small...

I see some cooking utensils nearby...I would use it as my dump bucket while I was prepping (the place where all the scraps go ) and then when you're finished dump it and into the dishwasher it goes.

I would take out the lid.. paint the wood and add some plants. Oregano, parsley, or cilantro. :)

No need to ruin the original nature of it, Leave the lid as is and the Plant idea is great!

    • Wendy Wendy on Aug 31, 2017

That's a lot of space for salt! Hmm perhaps something I use more of...coffee?

  • Jennifer Jennifer on Aug 31, 2017

I think it is for salt too but if you don't need it for that maybe you could use it for a scrubbie or to put rings in it when you do dishes. Or just take it down and use it in another part of your apartment

You know you could leave it there and put bag/food clips in it for easy access or use in the bathroom for hair clips, toothbrush holder, razor holder or by the front door of keys /change. I like the flat side you can just push it up against the wall.

it looks small to me! but that's what i was thinking.... the dish scrubby? since it looks close to the sink. i now wish i had one! lol

  • Pat Ruge Pat Ruge on Aug 31, 2017

It is definitely a salt cellar or salt box (same thing). If the "box" is plastic, it was most likely after the 60's

Well being from Louisiana, I'd fill it with Cajun seasoning. We put that stuff on everything!

They use to keep a metal can on the stove for grease.. this looks like it has spatters under the lid.. ?

  • Goldrushgal Goldrushgal on Aug 31, 2017

You could keep rubber bands or bread ties to use in the kitchen or you could put cactus soil mix and add a succulent plant. Or maybe for a ring keeper when working in the kitchen. Small kitchen gadgets. Or any small items. Have fun.

Hello Wendy; Someone turned this Antique piece of glass into a Salt box.

The glass is made by Anchor Hocking. It is an older piece. From the 40's-50's.

I believe that the pattern name is Rings.

You can use this piece for anything that you desire!!

I hope that this is helpful to you!!! Take Care!

Hi Sunny, I also dealt in antiques but not particularly glass which I am now becoming addicted to. I got a fairly large collection of Corning pyrex restaurant ware, Greek key. . . cups/saucers, two sizes sauce dishes, oval platters, oval plates, cereal bowls. . . $5. I liked them so much I made cupboard room, when really I just bought them on a whim. Because of the odd shape of Wendy's bowl, wouldn't this have been maybe a pair or had a lid itself? I think it is great and would use it for salt as I like to pinch it out!

    Looks like a denture cup.

I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher, looks old enough for the paint to not stand up to the bleach in dishwasher detergent. Rule in this house...if it was made before dishwashers came into being, hand wash only.
