How I Painted My Stone Fireplace
I love to decorate for the seasons, but have neglected certain parts of my house that left me uninspired. So yesterday I started painting our stone fireplace! My goal is to neutralize the multicolored stones with a single color, giving me a cleaner palette to work with when I decorate for the seasons. Paint has always been my friend when it comes to giving my house a fresh, new look. When I built this house in 2005, I chose this stone. But over time the mantel became harder to blend in with my current decorating style.
BEFORE & AFTER!
BEFORE: My house has cooler tones and the fireplace looked more like a patchwork quilt on my wall with colors that no longer worked. I wanted a simple sandstone finish that complemented the colors in my house.

IN PROGRESS: Here are the details:
- A simple watered down single paint color is all I used. (affiliate link)
- Because I was trying to get an even finish on multicolored stones, I didn't dab or wipe off since I was hoping for an even finish.
- The paint was watered down to the consistency between milk / buttermilk, and I chose a color that closely matched the lightest stone.
- I applied it in circular motions with a nylon brush.The color closely matched the mortar as well.
MY VISION FOR MY MANTEL: I was working on another project, we created our own DIY Cathedral Window Frame so the fireplace makeover began with this project in mind.

I love multi colored brick to but that's just me. You did a very nice job and I too like the cathedral frame.
