Hello there, as most of you know, I love yard/garage/tag sales. As soon as I pulled up to the sale and saw this little table, I knew all it needed was a little paint to bring this $3 table back to life again. This is the first chance I had to use Country Chic clay paint. Hometalk sent two 4 fl. oz. jars of it to me, along with a brush, a stir stick, and a decal for posting my first two tutorials. I love this paint, it goes on smooth, and the color seems to be rich. I didn't distress it, but am sure it would look lovely if I had. The only thing I didn't like about the paint wasn't the paint, but was that it didn't list the name of the color on the jar. Being partially color-blind, I had to ask my husband what color it actually was.
The table is made of particle board, and had scratches all over it.  Some of the corners and edges were, well, lets say already distressed.
This is a top view showing the scratches, and that it had been a well used table.
I started off by sanding the whole table down with some 220 grit sandpaper.  I then took a damp cloth and wiped the dust, then let it dry.
Using 1 1/4 cans of ColorPlace spray paint in flat black, I spray painted the top and bottom shelves.  I put 3 coats on them to help hide any imperfections.
Here is the bottom shelf after 3 coats of the flat black spray paint.
Next thing I did, was take some blue painters tape, and taped under the table top so I wouldn't get paint on the new paint job.
I also taped on the bottom shelf around the legs and edges of the shelf.
Using Country Chic's Elegance clay based paint in a gray color, I painted the legs and trim under the top shelf.   I painted it two coats because I was afraid to put the paint on thick, as I didn't know if it would run.  After letting the paint all dry for 4 days, I spray painted 4 coats of Minwax fast-drying Polyurethane in clear satin to protect the new paint.  No, it's not fancy, but it's renewed, and ready to be brought home and adored by man and woman alike.
