We have tried sprays scents to our home and every place I sit he continues to mark. I love this pup however, I want to have a clean nice home too. Is there anyone out there that has experienced the same. May feel my pain and aggravation?
Any suggestions or great outcomes are greatly appreciated

Have you had the vet check him out? Do you take him for nice long walks at least twice a day? or to a dog park? I would watch him like a hawk, the minute he even looks like he's gonna lift his leg, make a loud noise, don't say his name or look him in the eye, and when he doesn't finish lifting his leg.... say good boy. I would crate him when your busy and not paying attention.

Yes my friend went through this last year and crate him when not home and everytime he does it say no and in the crate and limit has area to kitchen until the pup starts to understand. Every time you take him out f the crate let use the bathroom outdoors until he starts to understand the process.

Thank you. I think from the responses I need to get the crate back out. Do you know if your friend ever tried a belly band? My husband just said he wants to try and see if it may help him. I am not too sure what it is about but. we are really trying anything.

Thank you for responding. I have to say "Yes" to all of the above. I am almost ready to go back to the crate. I have a disability that causes me to not move so fast. By the time I get to him its usually to late.

I just called her and she didn't know about it, but it's worth a try, I've seen dogs with them.

Hello Teresa; A good Friend of mine had this issue, with his puppy.

He used a site called: Chewy.com

He purchased a book called how to train your dog in seven days, and he also purchased Wee Wee pads, when the dog had an accident.

I hope that this helps you!!! Take Care!

Take him out every time he eats or drinks. Long healthy walks. Crate when u can't eagle eye him. I've heard dogs hate citrus smells, but I don't know.

  • Thank you for the suggestions. We do most but, havent heard of the citrus smells. Worth a try!

Neutering the dog will eliminate some of the marking behavior.

Definitely neuter if he's not. It's hard to break the habit once they start but the neuter will help . It's important to rid any area he's marked on of his scent. I like nature's miracle. I have a client who uses the belly band and it works great. She places a pose pad inside if it. Have you tried a spray bottle filled with water? Every time he lifts his leg indoors a quick spray and a deep stern NO should help. Good luck and be diligent.
