Your Rubber tree prefers Zones 10 - 12 which means your winter is a little too harsh for it. It is probably best to keep it in a pot and take it inside for the winter.

I live in florida and it's either 9 or 10 , depends on what chart you look at. I received a rubber tree plant as a "house warming" gift 😉 well, cats liked it too much so I put it in the yard. that was about 10 years ago and the pic will answer your question.... that is a 6ft fence and it just about touches the power lines in back. they are very strong n determined plants 😎 also when you cut a branch off, you can just place it in a pot that has good mix of soil and it will root n grow,,,, good luck

My friends planted theirs near the house in Zone 8b or 9 (depending on chart) and it does beautifully.

Hello, Outdoor rubber tree plants (Ficus elastica) may grow in zone 9 if winter protection is offered. In the wild, outdoor rubber tree plants can reach 40 to 100 feet (12-30.5 m.)

Yes you can grow your rubber trree in zone 9, but consider protecting it overwinter. Maybe wrap it in burlap or put in a pot and bring it inside to protect it.
