Looking for outside rabbit run

Recently, Summer 2017, someone posted a question about how to make a safe rabbit enclosure outside. I don't think any photos were posted along with it. I'd love to see what suggestions came up for it since I can't find it in my hometalk log... Thanks!

I would suggest you look at cat patios or catios or cat runs. They are all basically the same thing for rabbits and small animals.

If they have younger sisters they can hand me downs. That's what I did with my boys clothes by the time they reached my third son & he wore them it was time to through them out.

I used the box part from a cal king bed with chicken wire to use as a fence as I had Fudge in corner of yard. 2 sides was chain link fence 3rd side was medal shed. And I made shade out if electric pipe with medal roof for California summer heat & for winter rain. Would let her out to run in side yard in evening when cooler & she didn't want to go back in pen my cockpit would run up to her & put his feet on her back so I could catch her & she would play with my chow/rot threw the fence. Watch for hawks, put cover over top if in open area.

What a great idea to reuse your bed frame- instant construction. Rabbits playing with dogs must be funny to see...

If you are making an outside run for rabbits you will have make a solid floor or they will dig out from under a fence.

Oh, yes! Thank you for the reminder. Even a caged animal has the instinct or knowledge to dig. I was really thinking of it for very short periods of time when I'm outside there, too. And other critters could dig their way in, I suppose. Maybe I should put this on the shaded cement part of my yard..

I do know you have to build a wire grate underneath the dirt floor cause things like foxes, weasels will dig in and they can dig out... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPxiuYhjCiw

Thank you, Sharon - you know your stuff! I loved the 5 star rabbit house, quite large. I also noticed that it had extended chicken wire along the bottom edges of the enclosure, maybe about a foot wider than the cage on each side. Yes, the overhead protection is necessary, I agree! As humans, we never think about threats that might be above us. Animals also need some kind of shade cover, too.Fora long time, there was a sad video going around of a young boy filming his guinea pig out side. He is shown taking the g.p. out of its cage, and the boy places it on top of the cage while he picks up something else. There is a blur in front of the camera, and the poor g.p.is gone! The boy is in total shock, just by glancing away, his pet disappears. The blur is enough in the footage to be recognized as a large bird... how sad.Not happening with any of MY pets, haha! Thanks again!
